Youth Baseball Clinic A Success

The Chevy youth baseball clinic was held on March 25th. More than 70 children ranging in ages from 5 to 14 showed up for the clinic. The participants were treated to a night of great lessons on the fundamentals of baseball. Most of the children enjoyed throwing baseballs at “Bob”.

Bob was the dummy first basemen who was tasked with catching the baseballs while holding a cup of water on his head. There were a number of participants who displayed extreme accuracy by knocking the cup of water off Bob’s head with a throw from second base. Second to Bob was the hitting station where participants took turns hitting soccer balls into a net. Overall the night was a Hugh success and all children polled could not wait to participate again next year.

Big Barrel Bat Ruling

At the November 2014 meeting, the LYBA board voted not to use big barrel bats for the 2015 year.
During the 2014 World Series, the National Dixie Youth Board voted to legalize 2 5/8″ bats (big barrel) in all divisions of play of Dixie Youth baseball. There is a local league option that restricts the use of the 2 5/8″ bat. The North Carolina Dixie Youth State Board has adopted this option and the 2 5/8″ bat will NOT be allowed in district and state tournament play in AA, AAA, and Major tournaments.
